The artwork Traces, Flows and Energies is a monumental drawing transferred to the wall through CNC-engraved lines. The piece consists of symbols, signs, and illustrations sourced from the surrounding world – information signs, clipart, signal images, and markings. These elements merge into a dynamic composition that blends symbols and signs from various cultures, activities, and places around the world.
The artwork spans a 120-meter-long and 5-meter-high passage, guiding travelers from the security checkpoint to the duty-free area and onward to the airplanes.
The inspiration behind Traces, Flows and Energies is drawn from Egyptian reliefs, Scandinavian runestones, and Siri Derkert’s iconic artwork at the Östermalmstorg subway station in Stockholm. The piece aims to translate historical carving techniques into a modern context through CNC technology, creating a contemporary form of “rock carving.”
The ambition of the drawing is to convey a flow of consciousness that weaves together moods and expressions from the private and local to the universal and global. Traces, Flows and Energies serves as a mental journey, where the viewer can follow the traces of a visual and spiritual voyage into the world.
